Dr Francesc Malagelada is a highly respected Consultant Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgeon based at the Royal London Hospital, the largest Trauma Centre in the UK. He has a special interest in foot and ankle surgery and treats common conditions such as bunions, sports injuries, ligament damage, tendon issues, as well as complex conditions that require reconstruction surgery. Dr Malagelada takes a patient-centric approach to care and offers both surgical and non-surgical options to adapt to each patient's lifestyle.
Dr Malagelada studied medicine at the University of Barcelona in 2005 before training in orthopaedics at a number of institutions including The Royal London and the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital. He completed a one-year fellowship at the Windsor Foot and Ankle Unit, where he gained foot and ankle expertise. He was also awarded the ESSKA-AFAS international fellowship by the European Society of Sports Traumatology, Knee Surgery and Arthroscopy. In addition, he has membership of a number of societies, including the British Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society, the European Foot and Ankle Society, and the General Medical Council.
Dr Malagelada is actively involved in research; he has more than 55 peer-reviewed publications in scientific journals, and he has made contributions to a number of orthopaedic textbooks. He also holds a PhD in minimally invasive surgery (MIS) of the foot and has researched extensively in the field of arthroscopy and MIS to obtain faster recovery times. Additionally, he has lectured and organised courses to teach these advanced techniques.
